I am honored to be A Keeper of Choice for families

Philosophy of Care

Pregnancy, birth, lactation, and postpartum are a time of tremendous transformation and deserve time, focus, and sanctity.  I was drawn to midwifery for its emphasis on continuity of care, informed choice, intensive postpartum care, and the fundamental belief that pregnancy, birth, and lactation are a natural physiologic state of being and process. I offer a range of services that are an alternative and/or supportive to hospital based/allopathic care during the perinatal year as a midwife, lactation consultant, and doula. Having a small practice allows plenty of time for one to two hour long appointments to check in (really check in), provide information and answer questions about common concerns and tests offered, and form a trust based relationship.

Midwifery

Midwives hold space for the rite of passage into parenthood for the first, third, or tenth time and strive to make the beginnings for our babies as gentle as possible. Birthing people do best when given space to move around, nourishment, comfort, and reassurance from providers they know and trust. We hold a deep respect and awe for the moment of birth. There is nothing quite like it in this world.

Lactation Consultant

Human milk is the best food for our babies. I strive to help you achieve your breast/chest feeding goals, whatever they may be, with compassionate and supportive care.

Labor and Birth Doula

Birth is not just about a baby being born; parents are born too.  Your journey is just as important. I am drawn to caring for families in a non-medical role as a doula for anyone desiring extra support regardless of birth location.

Additional Services

Parent Baby Meet Ups

Peer support during the early weeks, months, and years of parenting is a way to reduce the feeling of isolation, learn how other parents are navigating infant feeding, teething, sleep, growth spurts, screen time, and so many other topics that come along with parenting, and make friends that may last a lifetime. We are currently meeting one Monday morning a month at Webster Library in Kingfield, and one Friday evening a month at Carrabassett Valley Library. Email or text me if you would like to learn more.

Prenatal Lactation Class (Available upon request)

In this class, you will learn: the benefits of breast/chest feeding; how the body develops and prepares to lactate; what to expect in the first hours, weeks, and months postpartum; how to position and latch your baby; how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk without scales or bottles; common lactation challenges and how to manage them; local and on-line resources, and more.

Back to Work Workshop (Available upon request)

Are you headed back to work and have questions about maintaining your breast/chest feeding relationship with your baby? This 1 hour workshop goes over how to optimize milk expression, handling and storage of expressed milk, how much and how to prepare stored milk for baby’s feeds, paced bottle feeding, supportive measures to ease the transition, and any other questions and concerns you may have.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

My goal as a care provider is to be accessible and a community resource.  I offer sliding scale discounts, payment plans, and accept barter for a portion of my services.  Current barter interests include childcare, organic food and drink, garden help and supplies, home improvement, and small business guidance.  Please consider paying the full fee so others can benefit from discounted services and I can sustain my business if you:  own your home, health insurance covers most of your health care costs, are fully employed or able to choose to work part time, have assets that will, or currently, contribute to financial security.
